Video (14:05): Antidepressants & The Placebo Effects

Colin A. Ross, MD, is a psychiatrist and is a (2008) winner of the James Randi Educational Foundation Pigasus Award for being a parapsychological fraud. He runs the Colin A. Ross Institute for Psychological Trauma and wrote a book entitled The Great Psychiatry Scam. He makes up a lot of stuff that is garbage but this video about antidepressants and the placebo effect is accurate.

Video (13:43): Treating Depression: Is there a placebo effect?

This video is a “60 Minutes” segment from February 19, 2012 on the issue of whether antidepressants work or not based on the fact that they are not much better than placebo. The way I interpret the literature is that both placebo and medicine work for mild to moderate depression but only mediation works for moderate to severe depression. Furthermore, the best outcomes occur when you do both together.
